CSE shareholders elect 4 directors today

Election of four shareholder directors for the demutualised Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) will be held today (Saturday).

Nine candidates are contesting for the posts. They are - Dr Jamshed Sanyiath Ahmed Chowdhury of British Bengal Securities, Mirza Salman Ispahani of ISPI Securities Ltd, Md Anwar Hossain of Hassan Shares & Securities Ltd, Mohammad Khairul Anam Chowdhury of LankaBangla Securities, Md Mofizuddin of Remons Investment & Securities Ltd, Mohammed Mohiuddin of Island Securities, Md Shamsul Islam of BE Rich Ltd, Shahjada Mahmud Chaudhuri of Alpha Securities and Tareq Kamal of BH Securities & Investment Services Ltd.

A total of 145 shareholder voters will be able to cast their votes in the election, to be held from 10am to 3pm on the CSE premises, officials said.

Advocate Wahida Idris will conduct the polls as chairman of the three-member election commission. Other two members are Advocate Md Akhter Hossain and Mr Syedul Mostafa Chowdhury.  

The election has created enthusiasm among the voters, as the port city bourse will get its first 13-member board after demutualisation.

The remaining nine directors will include seven independent directors, one from strategic investors' category and the bourse's chief executive officer, who would have voting rights.

The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) Thursday selected seven independent directors for the CSE.

An annual general meeting (AGM) will also be held today after the election, where the newly-elected directors will be formally introduced and handed over charges of the port city bourse.
