Chittagong Dock Port Workers Federation (DPWF) allied with the ruling party Sunday withdrew its weeklong demonstration and work abstention, following fruitful discussion with the port authority, reports UNB.
The DPWF announced withdrawal of its programme at 8pm, following a meeting with acting chairman of the port Captain Anwarul Haque and senior officials.
The federation leader Abdul Ahad said the port authority has assured them of fulfilling some of the demands, including identity card for the workers and non-engagement of outsiders for outer-anchorage.
Earlier, the leaders alleged that the government did not implement the decisions taken in the meetings with the shipping minister Shahjahan Khan at different times although they did not put up the agreed minutes of the meetings.
