Operations of Chittagong Port and Shah Amanat International Airport remained suspended, as the severe cyclone 'SIDR' with a core of hurricane winds has been advancing closer to the country's coast, report bdnews 24.com and UNB.
Sources said, all activities were suspended at the port and airport at 8pm Wednesday in apprehension of calamity.
Establishments and equipment of the naval base, air base and Patenga oil sector are on alert, and precautionary measures have been taken there to face the cyclonic storm.
The Met Office Thursday advised Zia International Airport (ZIA) to suspend all flights from 9pm until further notice.
Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh Director Wing Commander Saidul Hasan Khan said, "As a precautionary measure, we've asked all concerned to tether the planes securely to ward off any accident in view of the cyclonic weather."
