CHITTAGONG, Feb 2: Train services on Chittagong-Dhaka and Chittagong-Sylhet routes have been restored after 11 hours of suspension, following 'sabotage' on track by miscreants during the BNP-sponsored blockade on Monday. Engineers with rescue trains cleared the track at around 4.00 pm.
Schedule of six trains remained suspended on the routes since early morning, as two bogies and engine of the Chittagong-bound Mymensingh Express met with an accident near Bartakia railway station under Mirsarai.
The train derailed, as pandrol clips - used to fasten tracks with sleepers - of the railway line was removed. It caused the engine and carriages to spill over to another track, blocking all train links to and from Chittagong.
As no train could cross the spot till 11.00 am, Bangladesh Railway (BR) temporarily suspended services of four trains from Chittagong and two trains from Dhaka.
Operations of the trains that were suspended from the morning were Chittagong- Dhaka Suborno Express, Mohanagar Provati and Godhuli Express, Chittagong-Chandpur Sagorika Express, and Dhaka-Chittagong Suborno Express and Mohanagar.
Hundreds of passengers and concerned relatives were seen waiting at Chittagong train station following the suspension. They remained stuck until 11am, after which BR announced the cancellations.
