DCC, Upazila polls after Ramadan

The Election Commission now plans to hold election to both Dhaka City Corporation and Upazila Parishads after Ramadan and within October, as the test run with polls went well Monday.

Speaking about their plan at the EC secretariat, Election Commissioner M Sohul Hussain said the commission is making and examining all rules for upazila ordinance that would be sent to the Ministry of Law by next week.

Asked about the date for the upazila elections, he said the date was not till fixed, but the upazila elections could be held after the month of Ramadan in October.

He said the announcement of the upazila election schedule would depend on the progress of work done by the commission.

Asked whether the EC has any plan for increasing the number of polling-centers to declare the results without delay, he said they could increase the polling-centers and booths after analysis of the reports collected from the spots.
