The interim government has now extended the deadlines for the reports from all six reform commissions initially formed to rework state machinery following the ousting of the Awami League regime in a mass movement, bdnews24.com.
The Public Administration Reform Commission, Police Reform Commission, Anti-Corruption Commission Reform Commission, Electoral Reform Commission and Constitutional Reform Commission have been given until Jan 15 to submit their reports.
The Judiciary Reform Commission has been given until Jan 31 to submit its report.
The Electoral Reform Commission, Police Reform Commission, Judiciary Reform Commission, Anti-Corruption Commission Reform Commission and Public Administration Reform Commission were formed on Oct 3. These five commissions were given 90 days to submit their reports to Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus. Accordingly, they were supposed to submit their reports by Jan 2.
The Constitutional Reform Commission was formed on Oct 6. This commission was supposed to submit its report by Jan 5.
On Nov 4, Chief Advisor Yunus met with the heads of the six commissions set up in the first phase. There, he was informed about the progress of the commissions' work.
These six commissions have opened websites to collect opinions, held dialogues with stakeholders, exchanged views, conducted surveys and collected opinions in writing. The work of preparing the report is ongoing after reviewing these proposals and opinions to prepare recommendations.
Now, the Cabinet Division has issued a separate notification on Thursday, extending the deadline for the commissions. The notification, signed by Cabinet Secretary Sheikh Abdur Rashid, will take effect immediately.
The reform commissions for the media, health, labour, women's affairs and local government were formed in the second phase on Nov 18. They have until Feb 17 to submit their reports.
