The death toll from Covid-19 increased to 38 on Wednesday from 31 on Tuesday, according to official figures.

However, the number of people diagnosed with coronavirus was comparatively lower on Wednesday than that of the previous day.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported 2,198 new Covid-19 cases during the last 24-hour reporting time until Wednesday morning compared to 2,293 on Tuesday.

With Wednesday's figure, the number of total casualties from Covid reached 6,713 since the virus was first detected in Bangladesh in March.

The rate of fatalities from coronavirus remained static at 1.43 on the day, according to a DGHS press release.

During the last 24 hours on Wednesday, the Covid-19 infection rate was recorded at 13.76 per cent, which was comparatively lower than the previous day.

Some 15,972 samples were tested during the last 24 hours, while a total of 15,884 samples were collected across the country during the period.
