Deaths, rate of positivity drop in BD

Both the number of deaths from Covid-19 and its test positivity rate declined further in Bangladesh on Tuesday.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported 14 deaths from the coronavirus on the day while the figure was 18 on Monday.

With the latest count, the number of total deaths from Covid-19 reached 8,055 since the virus was detected first in Bangladesh in March last.

On the other hand, the authorities reported 515 new Covid-19 cases in the country during the last 24-hour reporting time until 8:00 am on Tuesday, said a DGHS press release.

The rate of Covid-19 infections fell to 3.58 per cent on the day from the previous day's rate of 4.06 per cent.

According to the official data, a total of 14,401 samples were tested while some 14,696 samples were collected across the country during the last 24-hour reporting time.

A total of 447 people recovered from the Covid-19 during the last 24-hour reporting time, it mentioned.

The rate of recovery, which has been maintaining an uptrend in recent days, was reported at 89.59 per cent on the day.

The rate of fatalities from Covid-19 remained static at the previous day's rate of 1.51 per cent in the country.

According to the official data, the number of total Covid-19 cases have so far reached 532,916 in Bangladesh and 477,426 of them recovered from the deadly disease.

Over 3.58 million samples have so far been tested in the country since March last, the data showed.
