Fatalities from Covid-19 have been showing an upward trajectory in the country since Saturday, while the number of new cases showing no sign to recede.
Thirty five more people died from the infectious disease within 24-hour period until Wednesday morning, which gradually increased from 20 on Saturday, 23 on Sunday, 27 on Monday, and 30 on Tuesday.
With the latest figures, the total fatalities from the viral disease reached 5,440 since this March, according to a daily statement, issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The deadly virus also infected 3,73,151 individuals, including 1,520 in the latest reporting period, the DGHS noted.
According to it, the overall detection rate has been reported at 18.41 per cent, deaths at 1.46 per cent, and recovery rate at 76.81 per cent.
Some 1,798 people recovered from the disease in the 24-hour period, taking the total tally to 2,86,631 in the last seven months.
The figures of latest deceased include 25 male and 10 female, whereas most of them or 22 were above 60 years old.
Among the ill-fated individuals, one died in each of 0-10 years, 11-20 years, and 21-30 years age brackets, while two were in 41-50 years and eight were 51-60 years.
The DGHS data also said Dhaka division reported the highest of 19 deaths, Chattogram six, Rajshahi two, Khulna three, Barishal two, Sylhet one, Rangpur one, and Mymensingh reported one cases.
Of them, 34 people died in hospitals, the DGHS statement said, adding that the remaining one died in residence.
Different hotline numbers, dedicated to Covid-19-related healthcare services, received 46,841 calls in the 24-hour period that took the total number of calls to 2,14,61,637.
Currently, 41,233 people are quarantined and 14,995 are in isolation to help check further virus spread.
Bangladesh is one of the top 20 countries in terms of total cases across the globe that has been suffering badly from the virus outbreak.
According to information portal Worldometer, Bangladesh is the fourth worst-affected nation in Asia and 16th in the globe.
Bangladesh is following India, Iran and Iraq in the list of Asian nations, who cumulatively reported 11.31 million cases.
Globally over 36.09 million people have been infected with the novel coronavirus, and 1.05 million people have fallen victim to the disease.
