Decision to deploy army depends on EC: Annisul

Awami League backed mayoral candidate of Dhaka North City Corporation Annisul Huq said on Saturday that the deployment of army during the city corporations polls was the jurisdiction of the Election Commission (EC).

"I have no reservation relating to the deployment of army during the elections. But the decision on this issue is solely depends on the EC. If EC thinks army deployment is necessary for holding a free and fair elections, it could do so and if it does not think, then it should not deploy army," he told the journalists while campaigning at Tejgaon College in the city on the day.     

"The Prime Minister gave me her support. But I need your (voters) votes to win. I could win if I get your votes. I maintain honesty and transparency. I have no bad reputation. I have the experience to run the administration. Judging all these you please elect me, I will remain with you," he said.

Later, he went to Mirpur areas and gave away leaflets to the people and sought their blessings and votes for winning in the elections on April 28.
