Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain said they would receive Election Commission's (EC) letter for scheduled dialogue on electoral reforms, according to the party's constitution they are the legitimate BNP.
Talking to journalists at his NAM apartment, the BNP secretary general referred to conflicting reports in newspapers in last two days over the EC's invitation, reports UNB.
Some newspapers quoting CEC Shamsul Huda reported Friday that the EC will send them the invitation letter as legitimate BNP but some newspapers Saturday said he has not taken any decision yet.
"We don't understand it. The CEC and newspapers know better. But what we know is that we are the legitimate BNP", he said.
He once again claimed the BNP to be one and united and there was no grouping in the party. If there was anything that might be at individual levels, he said.
The BNP secretary general expressed the hope that the caretaker government would arrange the parliamentary elections as soon as possible, which was its prime responsibility under the constitution.
In reply to a question, Delwar said they had not yet made any written application to the government for opening the BNP central office.
"We've made requests to the government through the media", he said.
He said that further legal initiative would be taken for releasing the BNP chairperson after reopening of the Supreme Court.
BNP standing committee member RA Gani, who was present at the briefing, said there might be conflict at leadership level but not in the rank and file of BNP.
"We want to pursue BNP politics taking all together", he said.
