SYLHET, Oct 26 (UNB): Law enforcing agencies did not allow Delwar Hossain to enter Sylhet city apprehending political trouble.
Police said Delwar along with a number of BNP central leaders coming from Dhaka were intercepted at Lal Bazar, five kilometres from the city, at 12 noon.
Delwar and party leaders returned to Dhaka after offering juma' prayer at a local mosque in Lal Bazar area.
Party sources said Delwar was supposed to meet Sylhet BNP leaders in the afternoon at Hotel Fortune Garden in the city.
Two rooms of the hotel were booked earlier to hold the meeting, but the law enforcers took away the keys of the rooms in the morning, they said.
Delwar was scheduled to offer Juma' prayers at the mosque at the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) and also munajat on the shrine premises.
He was also scheduled to offer special prayer at the shrine of Hazrat Shah Paran (RA) before returning to the capital.
BNP sources said it was a private visit of Delwar after his appointment as the party general secretary.
