BNP Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain Saturday questioned the motive behind the proposed Truth Commission, report agencies.
Talking to the reporters at his NAM apartment, he alleged one of the purposes of the Commission might be that if the BNP leaders and workers refrain from the next parliamentary elections, they might be pardoned.
Delwar once again demanded the release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, and lifting of the state of emergency.
He criticised the authorities for keeping the BNP central office locked, and said, normal activities of the party are being obstructed, as they could not sit in the office.
Delwar deplored that though he sent letter to the concerned authorities last week, he was not yet given permission to meet Khaleda.
Asked about publication of the list of the suspected corrupts, the BNP leader questioned how and on what basis the government is publishing the list.
About Mannan Bhuiyan, he said, Bhuiyan has no right to speak about BNP and make a call for unity since he has lost his primary party membership. The chairperson has expelled him in line with the party constitution.
"He could only speak, if the BNP Chairperson and millions of BNP workers forgive him," Delwar said.
Bhuiyan, on Friday, urged the party colleagues to unite BNP, forgetting differences of opinion to take part in the next election.
Delwar said, "BNP is united under the leadership of Khaleda Zia. We are thinking over how the party can be made stronger."
He also rejected the possibility of sitting with Bhuiyan as part of efforts to unite the divided party.
Asked about bringing back Bhuiyan to the party, Delwar said, "Only chairperson can decide the issue. I am the secretary general nominated by her. I have no right to speak on this matter."
Earlier, leaders of Sirajganj District and Fatullah BNP along with Comilla (North) Swechhasebok Dal met and greeted Delwar as the new secretary general of BNP.
