Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Thursday reported 11 additional deaths due to the mosquito borne dengue fever, including 6 from Dhaka.
With the new deaths, the total number of casualties now stood at 778, including 543 from Dhaka.
As many as 2,663 new cases of hospitalization were also reported in the same period of time till 8:0 am Thursday across the country, including 900 from Dhaka, according to DGHS daily update.
Dengue appears to coincide with the rainy season from May to September and higher temperatures in Bangladesh, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
The ever worsening dengue situation showed no sign of improvement with the growing deaths and cases.
Furthermore, the health authorities also continued to report a growing number of new cases outside Dhaka. Of the new cases of hospitalization, 1,763 were reported from outside Dhaka.
The total dengue cases rose to 159,835. Of the total cases, 70,660 were from Dhaka, added DGHS.
A total of 9,913 people were being treated across the country in hospitals. Of them, 4,066 were from Dhaka.
Of the total admitted, 149,144 patients made recovery and returned home, including 66,051 from Dhaka with a 93 per cent recovery rate.
Last year, 281 people died due to dengue, the second highest in the history of the country.
