Dengue: Daily death toll still high, new cases down

Thirteen more people died of dengue, including eight in Dhaka city, in 24 hours until Friday morning.

Besides, 1673 dengue patients were hospitalised across the country in the period, according to the daily bulletin issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

With the latest daily statistics, the number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease reached 1,148 and positive cases 2,35,204 this year, indicating a gruesome situation.

Of the latest cases of hospitalisation, majority or 1195 were reported in regions beyond the capital city while the remaining 478 were hospitalised in Dhaka.

Dhaka division excluding the capital city reported 436 cases of hospitalisation, Mymensingh 33 cases, Chattogram 186, Khulna 255, Rajshahi 102, Rangpur nine, Barishal 171, and Sylhey division reported three cases of hospitalisation.

The number of fatalities from the mosquito menace is still showing no sign of respite as 159 people died from the disease in the first thirteen days of October.

September reported 396 deaths, August 342, July 204 and June 34 deaths from dengue disease.
