The death toll from dengue this year has crossed 900 mark as another 16 new deaths were reported in the 24 hours till Sunday morning, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The fresh death included seven in Dhaka.
With these additional fatalities, the total casualties have reached 909, including 603 in Dhaka.
During the same period, 3,008 hospitalisations were recorded across the country, with 812 of them in Dhaka, as reported by DGHS.
Unfortunately, the dengue situation continues to worsen, with a growing number of deaths and cases.
Health authorities are also witnessing an increase in new cases outside of Dhaka, with DGHS reporting 2,196 new hospitalisations in these areas.
The report estimates that the mortality rate among hospitalised patients is approximately 0.5 per cent.
Last year, 281 people died due to dengue, the second highest in the history of the country.
Meanwhile, the total number of dengue cases has risen to 187,725, with Dhaka alone accounting for 78,915 cases, according to DGHS.
In Dhaka, there were 45,344 male patients and 33,571 female patients. Outside Dhaka, there were 69,140 male patients and 39,670 female patients.
Currently, there are 10,470 patients receiving treatment in hospitals across the country, with 3,794 of them in Dhaka. Of the total number of patients admitted, 176,346 have recovered and returned home, including 74,518 from Dhaka.
