Dhaka, Hanoi sign MoU on rice trade

Bangladesh has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Vietnam in Hanoi to meet its growing demand of rice in the long term.
Bangladesh's food and disaster management minister Muhammad Abdur Razzaque and Vietnam's industry and trade minister Vu Huy Hoang signed the MoU Monday on behalf of their two governments, said a statement. Under the MoU, Bangladesh will be able to import rice at the government level and the price of rice and amount will be fixed upon negotiation on the basis of international market. Vietnam will provide rice to Bangladesh on a priority basis, if necessary.
Bangladesh has already imported 300,000 tonnes of non-boiled (Atap) rice and 52,000 tonnes boiled rice from Vietnam and also signed a deal to import 100,000 tonnes of boiled rice which will reach Bangladesh soon.
Mr Razzaque said both the countries can foster trade and investment and also share experiences in the fields of aqua-marine, agro-fisheries, leather product, pharmaceuticals, and jute and jute products.
