Dhaka stocks gain for 8th straight session

FE ReportbrDhaka stocks gained Monday for the eighth straight session, led by non-banking financial institutions' issues with significant increase in the turnover. brAll the market barometers - Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) General Index (DGEN), All Shares Price Index (DSI) and DSE-20 comprising blue chips -- rose 29.58 points, 18.59 points and 11.50 points to end at 2820.79, 2407.75 and 2453.03 respectively.brStocks of the NBFIs shined on the news that the central bank would introduce risk-based audit system to replace the existing transactions-based audit for the financial institutions from October next, according to the market operators. brThe market gained ground as the investors, who began to feel comfortable, chased stocks taking opportunity of lower prices to book profit in future, a stock broker said.brHowever, an analyst said, the investors gave concentration on some big scrip on the day, which was not a healthy sign for the market.brHe also said, sustainability of the eighth consecutive sessions gaining streak is a matter of question as investors are still trying to reduce their marginal cost taking opportunity of a long bearish spell. brThe market saw more green than red as out of 227 issues traded, 141 advanced, 76 declined and 10 remained unchanged. brThe total turnover, powered by gainers, climbed to Tk 3.35 billion against previous day's Tk 2.66 billion. The total market capitalisation also increased to Tk 975.84 billion against Tk 969.87 billion of the previous day. brMeanwhile, the talks between Securities and Exchange Concession (SEC), leading merchant bankers and brokerage houses continued. brAfter completion of the talks, the Commission will give briefing about the outcome of the talks that started from August 20, an SEC official said. brStock prices of Titas Gas rose 3.03 per cent to finish at Tk 424.25 per share, making it the top turnover leader with shares worth Tk 374.64 million traded.br
