Acting BNP chairperson Saifur Rahman Wednesday said that BNP was united under the leadership of Khaleda Zia and whatever differences were there in it would be resolved through discussions, reports UNB.
"We're imbued with BNP's ideals, they are too. Initiatives are being taken to resolve the differences soon," he told journalists after placing wreath and offering fateha at late President Ziaur Rahman's grave.
Saifur made the remarks minutes before some pro-Khaleda workers assaulted standing committee member Lt Gen (retd) Mahbubur Rahman and chased Mayor Sadek Hossain Khoka and Maj Gen (retd) ZA Khan.
Paying tributes to late president Ziaur Rahman and allegiance to Khaleda, Saifur said their ideals would be established in politics.
Acting BNP secretary general Maj (retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed said BNP was established with the sacrifice and hard labour of millions of BNP workers with the spirit of the 7th November.
BNP leaders Lt Gen (retd) Mahbubur Rahman, Osman Farooq, Mofazzal Karim and ZA Khan were, among others, present there.
Meanwhile, asking the Election Commission (EC) to revoke its impugned decision on dialogue invitation, BNP chairperson's adviser Brig Gen (retd) Hannan Shah Wednesday cautioned the EC from doing anything that compels people to demand its removal.
Talking to journalists after placing wreath and offering fateha at BNP' s founder late president Ziaur Rahman, he said the Commission dispatched the invitation letter hurriedly for dialogue set for November 22. The letter, he said, was supposed to be sent on November 7.
Shah said BNP leaders and workers had already rejected the Commission's decision. If the Commission does not revise its decision, he said, they would be compelled to take recourse to all constitutional means to over turn it.
