DMP rules out possibility of sabotage

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner has dismissed any possibility of sabotage to foil the upcoming general election.
"We don't have any information about a possible act of sabotage. But highest security measures have already been taken to face any such situation in the city," Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Naim Ahmed told reporters on Thursday.
He made the remarks at a monthly crime and election security-review meeting at the auditorium of Razarbagh Police Lines in the morning.
The commissioner said the DMP has taken a five-tier security measures to maintain law and order for peaceful holding of December 29 polls.
A record 38,928 members of police, Ansar and Village police will be deployed in the capital for holding the 9th parliamentary polls, he said.
The city dwellers could cast their votes through a total of 1834 polling centers, 875 of those are identified as most vulnerable.
Mr Naim said that two Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams, two bomb-disposal units, 16 uniformed women's teams and eight plain clothe women's teams will be kept standby. They are being prepared as specialised supportive force for the polling day.
Replying to a question, the DMP chief said police have been conducting raids in city hotels and houses on specific information about the presence of trouble mongers.
"We are closely watching movement of such elements, who may create trouble during the election," he said.
