All the mayoral candidates for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) polls on Friday promised to resolve the city dwellers' all the problems remaining within the jurisdiction of a mayor, reports UNB.
They came up with the lofty promises taking part in a view-exchange meeting with DNCC voters at a community centre jointly arranged by Sushashoner Jonno Nagorik (Sujan), a civil society platform working for good governance, and Nagorik Adhiker Sangrakkhan Forum (NASaf) ahead of the city polls billed for April 28.
Speaking at the programme, Awami League-sponsored DNCC polls mayoral runner Annisul Huq said the upcoming election was a challenge for him as every day he comes to know about fresh problems during his campaign.
Asked by a voter as to how he will get benefit from his investment in the polls, he parried the question saying, "I've invested my 25 years' experience in the election. My wife and son will take care of my business, and, if elected, I'll dedicate myself to the city's development."
Huq's potential rival and BNP-backed mayor candidate Tabith Awal said people face harassments when they go to the City Corporation for any service, and corruption is the main reason of the harassment.
He also assured the voters of taking necessary measures to check corruption at the city corporation, if he gets elected.
Tabith, the eldest son of BNP leader and businessman Abdul Awal Mintoo, said it would not be possible to improve the services of the City Corporations if corruption is not eradicated.
CPB-BSD-blessed mayor contender Abdullah Al Kafi said he had made his 71-point pledge for resolving the DNCC problems and improve the living standard of its dwellers. "I'll implement all my promises, if I'm elected."
Mentioning that he has a political career of nearly 30 years, Kafi said, "I've no other professional identity as I'm a fulltime politician. So, I believe I can serve the city dwellers better than any other candidates."
