Dollar crisis eases, exports on track: PM tells JS

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday told parliament that the dollar crisis has eased and the country's exports are more or less on track.

Responding to a supplementary question raised by JP lawmaker Mujibul Huq Chunnu during Prime Minister's question hour, the prime minister said that due to the pandemic and the Ukraine War the country had faced severe dollar crisis, which caused problem for the country.

"And this compelled us to be cautious in public spending but now the crisis has eased," she added.

She also mentioned that the government has strengthened monitoring on opening of LC, as previously many importers quoted inflated prices while importing goods.

The situation has changed after the monitoring, as banks are checking prices of the products through Bloomberg index before approving LCs, she added.

The prime minister mentioned that the exports of the country was not that much affected.

The rich countries who are importing from us are hit by inflation and people in those countries have cut on their consumption. This has led to a slight fall in exports, she explained.
