Doubling of salaries of Armed Forces personnel suggested

The salaries for the members of the Armed Forces comprising Army, Navy and Air Force have been proposed to be raised by 100 per cent keeping similarity with the planned hikes in those of the civil service.

An eight-member committee, headed by Quarter Master General Lieutenant General Anwar Hossain, recommended doubling of pay-scales for the military personnel on Thursday.

The committee submitted the report to Finance Minister AMA Muhith at his Secretariat office on Thursday.

Receiving the report, the Finance Minister said the committee has proposed doubling of the salaries of the Armed Forces personnel.

He said the government will implement the hike from July this year.

The report suggested a 100 per cent salary hike fixing the minimum basic salary at Tk 8,200 for the lowest non-commissioned (NC-civil) post.

The basic pay for the post of Major General, which is equivalent to the post of Secretary, has been proposed at Tk 80,000.

The basic pay for the post of Lieutenant General, an army post equivalent to the Senior Secretary has been recommended at Tk 88,000 a month.

The pay for the post of General has been suggested at Tk 100,000.

Lt General Anwar Hossain told reporters that the committee recommended pay hike for the Armed Forces members in line with the recommendations of the National Pay and Service Commission.

He said his committee was formed in 2013 and organised 16 meetings with the stakeholders concerned before preparing the report.

Chairman of the National Pay and Service Commission Dr Farasuddin submitted a report to the Finance Minister on December 21 proposing 100 per cent hike in salaries of civil servants.

A review committee on the pay hike has already been formed with Cabinet Secretary Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan as its chief.
