The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany appointed Professor Dr Rafiqul Islam of the Department of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Dhaka University as Humboldt Ambassador Scientist in Bangladesh. Professor Rafiq received the Humboldt Fellowship Award in 2002 from the Foundation. Forty-four of the Humboldt Fellows have been awarded with the Noble Prize. From Bangladesh there are only about sixty scientists who have been awarded with this prestigious Fellowship since 1959. — BSS
