FE Report
The council of advisers approved Saturday separate draft ordinances for the country's six city corporations with a provision for formation of a three-member panel of mayors.
The panel of mayors will perform responsibilities in absence of the mayor.
"A new provision for formation of a three-member mayor panel, one of them a female commissioner, to discharge the responsibilities of a city corporation in absence of the mayor has been proposed under the amendment," an official handout said.
Currently, four of the six city corporation mayors are in detention on charges of corruptions.
Besides, another provision for payment of monthly remuneration for ward commissioners of the city corporations has also been included in the proposed amendments to the City Corporation Act/Ordinances, the handout said.
Under the existing laws, ward commissioners of the city corporations are not entitled to get any monthly remuneration, said the handout issued by the Press Information Department (PID).
Presided over by Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed, the weekly meeting of the interim cabinet also gave its approval to 'The Pesticides (Amendment) Ordinance-2007, aiming to prevent the misuse of insecticides for agricultural purposes, it said.
The council, however, reviewed the government's latest relief and rehabilitation activities.
The meeting was told that Tk 320 million has already been sanctioned from the Chief Adviser' Relief and Welfare Fund in favour of flood victims for re-building their damaged houses.
Depending on the extent of losses, each of flood-hit family will receive a maximum of Tk 10,000 for the rehabilitation purpose, the handout added.
The meeting was informed about the country's overall stock, procurement and supply position of food grains.
