Law enforcing agencies have launched special operations to stop the display and sale of eight brands of powder milk from the markets across the country following a court order.
The eight brands of powder milk tested positive to melamine in separate 'confusing' reports.
The police headquarters Tuesday dispatched an order asking police and other government agencies across the country to take steps against the sale and display of the tainted powder milk.
On October 23, the High Court (HC) in an order asked the government to take steps to stop sale and display of eight brands of power milk until the test result of the milk products from the Food and Agricultural Organisation's (FAO) laboratory in Bangkok is received.
A mobile court of Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) raided different markets in the city Tuesday and penalised five shops for selling and displaying the eight brands of powder milk.
The mobile court, backed by members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institute (BSTI), raided different markets in the city Tuesday.
Led by magistrate Anwar Pasha, the DCC mobile court raided DCC's markets in Banani, Gulshan and Mohakhali and fined Abir General Store Tk 35,000, Tangail General Store Tk 16,000, NB General Store Tk 22,000, Shuvo General Store Tk 10, 000 and Rainbow Store Tk 7,000.
