Driver shot dead, car hijacked in city

Police recovered handcuffed body of a driver whose car was hijacked by assailants at Rampura in the capital on Monday. — Focus Bangla

Muggers shot dead a car driver and hijacked the car in the city's Banasree area early Monday, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Faruk Khan (26). Officer-in-charge (OC) Rampura Police Station Mahbubur Rahman said the incident occurred when Faruk was going to the residence of the car owner at Banasree.

He came from Mongla Port in Khulna with the car in the dead of night. A gang of muggers intercepted Faruk and tried take control of the steering when he reached near Banasree Jam-e-Masjid at about 3 am, the OC said.

As Faruk tried to resist the muggers, they shot him and fled the scene driving the car, leaving him dead on the spot.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
