Issuance of electronic taxpayer identification number (e-TIN) has remained suspended since last Friday (July 03) due to technical transition to the hardware system.
Both new and existing taxpayers have failed to obtain e-TIN online for availing of different services from public and private entities.
Officials said the hardware supporting company for e-TIN service is shifting its office and machinery, resulting in disruption in e-TIN service.
They said the service is expected to resume today (Tuesday) as transition of the machinery will be completed by this time.
IP address of the e-TIN system will have to be changed for resumption of e-TIN service, tax officials said.
Suspension of e-TIN service made many people puzzled as they were unable to obtain the tax registration numbers for getting services.
Submission of e-TIN is mandatory for obtaining various services, including car registration, issuance of trade licence, submission of tender documents, loans and credit cards from banks, obtaining gas and electricity connections for commercial purposes etc.
In the current budget, the government made it mandatory for the guardians of the students of English medium schools in city corporation and municipality areas to submit e-TIN.
Some 1.6 million taxpayers, both new and existing, have so far obtained e-TIN online.
