EC bans bikes for 3 days during polls

The Election Commission (EC) has imposed restriction on the plying of motorcycles across the country three days before and after the national elections.
According to the EC directives issued on Tuesday, the movement of four types of vehicles -- trucks, microbuses, taxi-cab and motorcycles -- will remain suspended for 24 hours on the election day.
The EC has sent a letter requesting the Road Transport and Highways Division to ensure the implementation of the restriction, reports UNB.
Meanwhile, the restriction was also imposed on the movement of vessels on the polls day.
Besides, no candidate or their supporters will be allowed to set up election camps or conduct campaigns within 400 yards of any polling centre, said a notice issued by EC.
All posters, leaflets and other campaign materials must be removed before the start of voting, it said.
Besides, candidates or anyone on their behalf cannot use any vehicles to bring voters to the polling station on the election day, said the notice.
To ensure the privacy of voters, a secret booth or marking place must be set up in each polling station according to the designated rooms and the rooms must be constructed in such a way that the voter's choice remains completely confidential while voting, it said. If there are windows or open spaces, they must be closed, it added.
As both the election and the referendum will be held on the same day, each voter will cast votes on two separate ballots.
Therefore, wherever possible, two secret booths should be set up in each polling room and it is not feasible, additional polling rooms must be arranged, it said.
Only transparent ballot boxes will be used at polling centres and each polling room must have one ballot box along with an additional reserve box.
If any ballot box becomes full during voting, it must be sealed with a lock and stored securely, said the notice.
