FE REPORT | November 05, 2025 00:00:00

The Election Commission (EC) has decided to grant registration to three political parties ahead of the upcoming national elections.

They are: The National Citizens Party (NCP), the Socialist Party of Bangladesh-Marxist, and the Bangladesh Aam Jonogon Party (BAJP).

EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed made the disclosure while briefing journalists at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the city's Agargaon area on Tuesday.

"The Commission has considered that these three parties can get registration as political parties and we will publish a notice in the newspaper tomorrow (Wednesday) for verification," he said.

After resolving any claims or objections, the EC will issue the final registration certificates.

Akhtar Ahmed said the period for settling claims and objections will end on November 12.

"After that, it is expected that the final gazette for political parties' registration will be published by November 14 or 15," added the official.

To participate in a national election with an electoral symbol, a political party must get registered with the Election Commission (EC).

Currently, there are 53 registered political parties with the EC, although the registration of the Awami League remains suspended.

After the EC's sought applications for registration ahead of the 13th parliamentary polls, over 140 parties had applied in June for obtaining its registration.

Out of them, 121 applications were rejected during preliminary screening. The EC conducted field investigations into 22 parties and finally decided to register three of them.

Additionally, the EC is awaiting a court order copy directing registration for the Bangladesh Nezame Islami Party, it was learnt.
