The nomination of ten candidates was validated so far Sunday after hearing on their appeals by the Election Commission against the cancellation of their nomination papers during the scrutiny, reports UNB.
Election Commissioner Sakhawat Hossain told newsmen that hearing on 50 appeals was completed until evening. "Ten appeals have been accepted, validating their nomination," he said.
According to informed sources, nominations of those validated after hearing until evening are: Mohammad Jalaluddin, Ind - Chandpur-1, Kamaluddin Mia, Ind - Munshiganj-2, Liaqat Ali Khan, Islamic Front - Munshiganj-3, Md Tajul Islam, JP - Habiganj-4, Abdul Quader, Ind - Dhaka-15, Harunur Rashid, AL - Laxmipur-2, Mohan Raihan, Ind - Sirajganj-2, Nazimuddin Al Azad, Ind - Jessore-4, Fazle Rabbi, Al - Gaibandha-5, Kazi Shahin, JP - Gopalganj-1.
The hearing on other appeals was underway and was likely to continue late into the night.
The Election Commission took up Saturday 132 appeals against the rejection of nominations during the scrutiny on various grounds, including defaulting on payment of bank loans.
Some 30 nominations were declared valid after the first day's hearing.
Air Vice-Marshal (rtd) AK Khandkar, an AL candidate, told a press conference earlier in the day that his nomination was cancelled on grounds of default loan. "But I have never taken any loan from the bank, nor have I ever stood guarantor of any bank borrower."
Appeals of some prominent castoff candidates, including Salahuddin Qader Chowdhury, MA Hashem, Lutfozzaman Babar and Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, will be taken up for hearing today (Monday).
