Eight more die, 636 more test positive

Another 313 patients recover

The country has confirmed eight more deaths from Covid-19 infection and 636 more positive cases in last 24 hours until 8:00 am on Saturday.

With this, the total death toll hits 214 and infections 13,770. The new number of positive cases for 24 hours is the lowest in last seven days.

Nasima Sultana, additional director general of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), said these in the daily online bulletin on COVID-19 situation.

Prof Nasima also revealed that 313 more Covid-19 patients have recovered from infection in the last 24 hours.

As per the revised guidelines, provided by the newly-formed Clinical Management Committee of the health authorities, 2,414 people have so far won the fight against coronavirus.

A total of 5,247 specimens were collected in the last 24 hours, while 5,465 specimens were tested in 35 labs across the country. The tests included specimens of the previous day.

Ms Nasima further said all the new eight deceased were men. Two of them were between 71-80 years old, two 61-70 years, one 51-60 years, two 41-50 years, and another was 31-40 years old.

A total of 196 people were put under isolation in the last 24 hours. Of the total infected, 58.28 percent are from Dhaka city, she added.

On Friday, the number of deaths from coronavirus infection crossed  the 200-mark in Bangladesh, just three weeks after the country witnessed the 100-mark in fatalities.

Bangladesh recorded its first fatality on March 08, and crossed 100-mark on April 20.

On April 17, the country recorded the highest deaths (15) from the Covid-19 outbreak.

It originated from China's Wuhan in last December, and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.

The fast spreading coronavirus pandemic has claimed 276,690 lives and infected 4,034,567 people across the world until 5:50 pm on Saturday, according to worldometer.

As many as 1,400,124 people have so far recovered from Covid-19, which has spread to 212 countries and territories across the planet.
