The European Union (EU) mission wrapped up its visit to Bangladesh on Thursday sharing some of its findings with the government.
The team mainly focused on "residue and public health control" in the fish processing plants.
Officials said the three-member Food and Veterinary mission (FVM) of European Commission called on Fisheries and Livestock Minister Abdul Latif Biswas Thursday evening and shared their observation and findings mainly on aspects of production.
"They discussed both weaknesses as well as strength of the country's fisheries sector. But they were not in a position to give comments or decision on their observations," said a senior ministry official preferring anonymity.
He said the European Commission will send a report to the government on the mission's visit where there might be some guidelines or directives for the government.
The team comprising Bruno Brigaudeau, Elzbieta Brulinska-Ostrowska and Lena Englund arrived here on January 18 to inspect the standard of the country's fish production as per European standard. Similar team also visited the country in 2008.
Officials, who attended the meeting, said the export to the EU market is made under strict regulations which, in many cases, are difficult to meet by a country like Bangladesh.
They said the meeting where heads of the ministry's agencies and divisions were present also briefed the team about the country's situation regarding some of their findings.
When asked by journalists the team members refused to comment on its findings.
The future of the country's export to EU countries largely depends on the EU FVM's report on aquaculture residue monitoring activities.
