Ex-ministers set to testify in GATCO case today

Although former LGRD Minister Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan did not receive any letter from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) until Monday afternoon, he will go to the ACC today (Tuesday) in connection with GATCO-related corruption case against former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, reports UNB.
Talking to reporters at his Gulshan residence, Bhuiyan said he came to know from media that the ACC has asked eight former ministers of the past alliance government to be present at ACC on September 25 to give statements in connection with Khaleda's case.
He said former Finance Minister Saifur Rahman and former Agriculture Minister MK Anwar received the ACC letters, but he did not receive the letter till 2.0pm. "But since ACC has asked me, I will go. But I don't know why they have called us," Bhuiyan said.
Asked whether they will go to ACC together, Bhuiyan said he did not have contact with others except Saifur Rahman and MK Anwar.
The ACC has also summoned former Industries Minister Matiur Rahman Nizami, former Health Minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, former Information Minister M Shamsul Islam, former Commerce Minister Amir
Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and former State Minister for Energy AKM Mosharraf Hossain to be present at its office today.
bdnews24.com adds: Ismail Hossain Saimon, one of the accused in the GATCO scam case filed against former prime minister Khaleda Zia and 12 others, was sent to jail Monday, hours after he was arrested in Dhaka.
Officials of the Anticorruption Commission with the help of Gulshan police arrested Saimon, son of the late BNP leader and former shipping minister Akbar Hossain, from Gulshan Avenue.
Metropolitan magistrate SM Ferdous Alam made the order, sending him to prison.
Gulshan police sub-inspector Zakia Begum told bdnews24.com that Saimon was arrested at about 12.30pm and was sent to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court for Dhaka at about 2pm.
