FE Report
The response of the individual taxpayers for filing of return was poor during the extended period of four days.
The extended time for individual tax return submission expires today (Thursday).
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has extended the time by five days from September 30, which was the first deadline for tax return submission.
The NBR officials said a large number of taxpayers applied for time extension.
The number of petition seeking further extension is much higher this year as the NBR relaxed the rule for enjoying universal self-assessment method, said a senior tax official.
Officials said they have received nearly 0.2 million petitions from individual taxpayers. Last year, it was less than 30,000.
NBR expects a rush of individual taxpayer on the last day. It expects a total of 1.0 million individual tax returns in the current fiscal. Last year, the revenue board received above 8.0 million returns from individual taxpayers.
The revenue board has received 0.55 million tax returns until September 30.
