Fatalities still high 36 more die, 1,106 infected

The number of deaths from Covid-19 has maintained almost previous highs despite registering a declining trend in the rate of infection in recent times.

Thirty-six more people have died of the disease in the past 24 hours until Saturday, according to a statement of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Saturday's deaths-25 males and 11 females-took the total tally of fatalities to 5,129.

On the other hand, 1,106 more people from 10,765 samples tested were diagnosed with coronavirus during the period.

A total of 10,680 samples were collected in the reporting period, according to the DGHS.

Again, as many as 1,753 people have recovered from the infectious disease in the past twenty-four hours.

The DGHS press release said the rate of detection was 10.27 per cent during the period.

The total number of people infected with the disease has reached 357,873 since the virus was first detected in Bangladesh on March 08.

The rate of fatalities from the disease was recorded at 1.43 per cent, the DGHS release added.

A total of 268,777 people have so far recovered from the disease with the recovery rate at 75.10 per cent, it stated.
