FE Report
The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Saturday urged the National Committee to Protect Oil, Gas, Mineral Resources, Power and Ports to withdraw its half-day strike to be enforced in the capital tomorrow (Monday).
The national committee called the hartal in protest against the police attack on its leaders and activists in the city recently.
The country's apex chamber body at a press statement said the strike called by the national committee will adversely affect business activities largely before the Eid-Ul-Fitr.
The FBCCI said the strike will also create problems for the home-bound people besides hindering production in the mills and industries.
"It will impede payment of bonus and wages to the workers before the Eid," the press release added.
However, FBCCI opined that the issues relating to the gas and coal exploration could be resolved through mutual discussion between the government and the national committee.
Meanwhile, the National Committee on Protection of Oil, Gas, Mineral Resources, Power and Ports has called upon all classes of people to make the hartal programme Monday (September 14) a success, said a press release.
They called the half-day hartal from 6 am to 12 noon to prevent the government from giving lease of the off-shore gas block to foreigners as this would result in loss of billions of taka.
To make the hartal a success the national committee Saturday held demonstration and rallies and distributed leaflets to the people of different areas of the capital.
Bangladesh Khetmojur Samity also demanded cancellation of the lease of the off-shore gas block and called upon everyone to make the tomorrow's hartal a success.
