FE Report
The government Tuesday imposed a bar on scheduled executive committee election of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) for 2007-09 until further order.
Meanwhile, the apex trade body Election Board held an emergency meeting immediately on receipt of the government order and took decision to convey the message to all its affiliated associations and chambers.
The embargo came when the Election Board of the FBCCI was receiving nomination papers for its election, scheduled to be held August 16, with the deadline for submission of nomination papers July 12.
Sources said the Ministry of Commerce issued this suspension order to give time for the Statutory Regulatory Order (SRO) that requires to make effect the decisions to restrict loan and tax defaulters from taking part in the FBCCI election which has not been issued yet.
