Five rivers in spate, fresh areas threatened

Five rivers burst their banks Wednesday, breaching danger marks at eight points, said Flood Forecasts and Warning Centre (FFWC) Wednesday, reports bdnews24.com.
The Brahmaputra and the Ganges tributaries and distributaries might see further onrush of flow during the next 24 to 48 hours, inundating fresh areas, said a FFWC forecast.
Saiful Hossain, FFWC duty officer, told the news agency at 11:30 am that the Jamuna was flowing 5 cm above the danger mark at Sirajganj point.
The Padma was flowing 15 cm above the danger level at Goalundo and 4 cm above at Bhaggyakul point.
The Surma was flowing 36 cm above the danger mark at Kanaighat and 21 cm above at Sunamganj.
The Someshwari was flowing 41 cm above at Durgapur. The Gomti was flowing 29 cm above the danger mark at Comilla and 20 cm above at Debidwar point.
The Met Office said most areas of Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal and Sylhet divisions may have brief spells of gusty to squally winds during the day.
Light to moderate intermittent rainfalls or thundershowers may also take place.
Some places in the country may see moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall too. The day temperature may remain almost unchanged.
The highest Dhaka temperature was recorded Tuesday at 29.7 degrees Celsius and the lowest, 24.6 degrees Celsius. The country's lowest of 23.2 degrees Celsius was at Cox's Bazaar.
