Flood death toll now stands at 226

Government officials said 16 more people were reported to have died in 24 hours until 11:00 am Friday taking the death toll to 226 in the current flooding across the country, reports UNB.
The death toll was 210 until Thursday morning, according to Food and Disaster Management Ministry.
A release of the ministry said nearly 9.20 million people of some 2.0 million families were still suffering by the floodwaters in 33 districts while some 342,792 people have taken shelter in 1,326 flood centres.
A bulletin of the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre said The Brahmaputra-Jamuna was flowing 40 cm above danger level at Aricha point, though it further receded at all points.
The Ganges-Padma was flowing 66 cm and 57 cm above the danger level at Goalando and Bhagyakul respectively and likely to recede at both points in next 24 and 48 hours.
The flood situation in the districts of Narsingdi, Brahmanbaria, Kishoreganj and Gazipur will continue to improve slowly in the next 24, 48 and 72 hours as the Meghna at Bhairab Bazar continued to fall, though slowly.
Flood situation around Dhaka City, especially in the eastern part of Dhaka, is likely to improve further as all five small rivers surrounding Dhaka and Narayanganj marked fall.
The flood caused damages to 54,527 houses (completely), 737,189 houses (partially), to standing crops on 598,685 acres (completely) and 568,833 acres (partially), 2,247 kms roads (completely) and 16,527 kms roads (partially), and educational institutions 531 (completely) and 5,580 (partially).
The damages also include 77 kms embankments (completely) and 614 kms (partially), and 35 bridge-culverts (completely) and 865 (partially).
The government so far distributed around Tk 4,51,00,000 as GR cash, some 13,415 metric tonnes of GR rice, Tk 1,21,66,500 as house building grant, some Tk 48,50,000 GR cash for purchasing dried food, and Tk 39,50,000 GR cash for conducting the relief and rescue operation.
