Flood situation further improves

The Brahmaputra-Jamuna has started falling and is likely to fall further during the next 24-72 hours and the Ganges-Padma at Goalando and Bhagyakul points has receded slightly and is likely to follow the trend at the same time, Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) said in its latest observation report Wednesday, reports BSS.
The flood situation in the districts of Manikganj, Munshiganj, Faridpur, Rajbari, Madaripur, Shariatpur, Gopalganj and in the upazilas of Dohar and Nawabganj in Dhaka district is likely to improve slowly, the FFWC said.
The flood situation around Dhaka city and on its eastern suburbs is also likely to improve further during the next 24-72 hours with the rivers around the capital and in Narayanganj are also retreating.
As the Brahmaputra-Jamuna started falling, it may decline by 8 cm and flow 21 cm below the danger level (DL) in flood-stricken Sirajganj during the next 24 hours. It may also fall by 3 cm at Aricha at the same time flowing 5 cm above the DL.
The Meghna at Bhairab Bazar is likely to fall by 8 cm and may flow 20 cm below the DL during the next 48 hours after recording a fall by 7 cm Wednesday. In the Meghna basin, all the northeastern rivers have also fallen. The Gumti also marked a fall by 31 cm at Comilla, the FFWC added.
