Floodwater may inundate fresh areas in north, east

Though water level at most of the rivers continued to recede on Tuesday, more areas in the northern and eastern regions might be flooded within next two days due to onrush of water from upstream amid heavy rain.
So far, a total of 94 people were killed in flooding in 25 districts of the country till 9:00 am on Tuesday, according to Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room (HEOCCR) under Directorate General of Health.
Bangladesh Meteorological Department and Meteorological Department of India forecast that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur in the northern region of Bangladesh and adjoining Assam and northern part of West Bengal of India in next 48 hours which might create further flooding in many regions of the two countries.
Water level in Teesta, Dharala, Kushiara and Surama also continued to rise on the day, triggering further flooding in places over Rangpur, Rajshahi and Sylhet divisions, according to Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) under Bangladesh Water Development Board.
But marooned people were suffering a lot due to inadequate supply of relief materials in Kurigram, Nilphamari, Gaibandha, Bogura, Sirajganj, Tangail, Sherpur, Jamalpur, Manikganj, Netrakona, Sunamganj and Sylhet districts.
Fifteen villages at Dimla in Nilphamari district were flooded afresh early Tuesday when Teesta was just reaching the danger mark, said our Nilphamari correspondent.
Villages under Khagakhoribari, Chhatnai and Chapani in Dimla upazila were flooded again for onrush of water. Some 25,000 people were marooned afresh.
However, the Jamuna, Ganges-Padma rivers might continue falling while the Surma-Kushiyara rivers might continue rising in next 24 hours, according to FFWC.
The Brahmaputra River may remain steady in next 24 hours. The Teesta and Dharala rivers might rise rapidly in next 48 hours, said FFWC.
Eleven rivers at 21 points in 14 districts were flowing 2.0cm to 71cm above the danger level on Tuesday evening.
The FFWC, however, said flood in Gaibandha, Jamalpur, Bogura, Tangail, Sirajganj, Manikganj, Rajbari, Faridpur and Munshiganj districts might improve in next 24 hours.
However, a total of 94 persons were killed in flooding. Of them, 76 drowned while 8 were killed by snakebites, seven by lightning strikes, one by RTI and two in other cases.
Six people died and six others were encountered with snake in a day (Monday morning to Tuesday morning), the data said.
A total of 3,800 people have contracted diarrhea of which 450 were infected just in a day, said HEOCCR.
Our Gaibandha correspondent adds: Water of the Brahmaputra receded at Chilmari-Gaibandha point but Ghaghat River was still flowing 12cm over danger level.
Water started declining but the condition of 0.6 million marooned people further worsened amid scarcity of food and fresh water in Gaibandha.
Only 6,000 packets of dry food, 1,150 tonnes of rice have been distributed so far among flood-affected people.
Flood victims were also suffering in Jamalpur, Sirajganj, Tangail, Kurigram, Madaripur, Shariatpur, Sunamganj and elsewhere in the country.
The disaster management and relief ministry data showed that only 13,000 tonnes of rice and 45,000 packets of dry food were distributed in last two weeks across the country when more than 4.0 million people were affected by floods.
