Police Sunday submitted charge sheets in Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's (CMM) court of Dhaka against 36 persons in 10 cases, including four teachers, 27 students and five outsiders, for their involvement in the spell of violence started from the Dhaka University (DU) campus on August 22, reports UNB.
The teachers of Dhaka University charge sheeted are: Anwar Hossain, Harunur Rashid, Sadrul Amin and Nim Chandra Bhoumik.
Three female students of Dhaka University, one female student of Titumir College, 23 university and college students and five outsiders were charge sheeted.
The investigation officers relieved Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) President Azizul Bari Helal, arrested earlier, of the charge in two cases in Ramna and Shahbagh thana.
A total of 53 cases filed with different police stations in the capital in connection with the unprecedented student protests that flared up following a brawl between students and some army personnel during a football match at the university playground on August 20.
Police have submitted final reports in 38 cases, while the rest are under investigation, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Naim Ahmed told journalists at the Telecom auditorium of Rajarbagh Police Lines Sunday morning after opening a training programme on Personnel Information Management System (PIMS) Software.
"The 36 accused were identified from video footage and through police investigation," the DMP Commissioner said, as the police filed the charge sheets with the Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka.
Of the accused, 12 persons, including two DU teachers -- Anwar Hossain and Harun-or-Rashid -- were arrested during and shortly after the incidents, said the city police boss.
The students charge sheeted include Bijon, Shibly, Arpana Pal, Tanjila Chowdhury, Shahin Chowdhury, Saiful Islam Firoze, Hassan Mamun, Kamrul Hassan Kochi, Samshul Kabir, Rassel Mitul, Rokonuzzaman, Qamruzzaman, Anwar Hossain, Moniruzamman Sarder, Aziz Hassan, Mofizur Rahman, Abdul Kader alias Monir, Ahsan Habib, Farid Uddin, Fateha Tuj Juhra.
Four others arrested during damaging vehicles on the street - Atiqul alias Atiq, Rokon, Harunur Rashid and Shamim - were charge sheeted two days ago.
Over 65,000 anonymous people were made accused in the 53 cases of violence during angry protests mostly led by university and college students on August 21-22 following the scuffle.
As the unrest kept spreading like wildfire from campus to campus, the caretaker government clamped curfew and shut down all universities and colleges in six divisional cities, including Dhaka.
