Fresh quake hits S Asia

An earthquake measuring 7.4 on the Richter scale with its epicentre in Nepal also hit Bangladesh, India and Afghanistan on Tuesday afternoon followed by an aftershock, according to the US Geological Survey, report agencies.
The fresh quake killed at least 37 people until filing this report at 10:00 pm on the day and spread panic in Nepal bringing down buildings already weakened by a devastating tremor less than three weeks ago and unleashing landslides in Himalayan valleys near Mount Everest.
Most of the reported fatalities were in villages to the east of Kathmandu, only just beginning to pick up the pieces after the April 25 quake that left more than 8,000 people dead. s UNB.
The earthquake also shook Bangladesh, including capital Dhaka, at about 1.10 pm, prompting panic-stricken people to come out of their homes and workplaces. It was followed by an aftershock with a magnitude of 5.4 on the Richter scale at about 1.40pm.
According to Indian media, the epicentre of the strong earthquake that shook Nepal on the day was close to Mount Everest. Namche Bazaar is the starting point for those who want to climb Mount Everest. The distance between Namche Bazaar and Mount Everest is about 30 km.
Earlier on April 25, another major earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 hit the Himalayan nation Nepal, leaving 8,019 people killed. The April-25 tremor also shook Bangladesh and India.
