General Md Abdul Mubeen, ndc, psc, Monday took over as the new Chief of Army Staff, replacing General Moeen U Ahmed, who went on retirement on completion of his tenure.
The new Chief of Army Staff General Mubeen formally took over the command of the Bangladesh Army from the outgoing Chief of Army Staff General Moeen U Ahmed by signing the handing-taking over book at a ceremony held at the Army Headquarters (AHQ) in the city.
A number of senior military officers and officers of the AHQ were present on the occasion, an ISPR press release said.
Later, General Mubeen called on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also the Defence Minister, at the Prime Minister's Office.
Chief of Naval Staff Rear Admiral ZU Ahmed and Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal SM Ziaur Rahman ceremonially adorned the new Chief of Army Staff with badges of rank of General in presence of the Prime Minister there. Among others, Defence Secretary Kamrul Hasan and senior military officers were present on the occasion.
Earlier, the outgoing army chief General Moeen U Ahmed placed wreaths at the Shikha Anirban and paid homage to the members of the armed forces martyred during the War of Liberation in 1971. He also signed the visitors' book.
A smartly turned out army contingent presented guard of honour to the outgoing chief of army staff at Senakunja. Later, General Moeen U Ahmed was ceremonially seen off by street lining according to the army tradition.
According to the ISPR press release, General Md Abdul Mubeen was commissioned in the regiment of infantry of Bangladesh Army on November 30, 1976.
Besides serving in various capacities at the battalion level, General Mubeen commanded two infantry battalions and an infantry brigade.
At the staff level, he served as brigade major in an independent infantry brigade headquarters, general staff officer first grade in infantry division headquarters and Bangladesh Military Academy.
General Mubeen was also private secretary to the Chief of Army Staff and director of the Military Training Directorate at the Army Headquarters.
He also held the position of director general of Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS). He was commandant of the Defence Services Command and Staff College. He commanded two infantry divisions as the general officer commanding.
Prior to joining as the Chief of Army Staff for next three years, General Mubeen was the Principal Staff Officer (PSO) of Armed Forces Division.
He graduated from Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) and National Defence College (NDC) at Mirpur.
As an international peacekeeper, he rendered service as the chief of staff (northern region) in the United Nations Operations in Mozambique (ONUMUZ).
During his professional career, General Mubeen has successfully completed various training curricula from China and India. Besides, he has attended numerous seminars, conferences and workshops at home and abroad.
He has traveled China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Kuwait, Mexico, Mozambique, Malaysia, Nepal, Russia, Indonesia, Switzerland, South Africa, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Turkey, USA, UK and Zimbabwe.
He is married to Syeda Sharifa Khanom, and is the father of two sons and a daughter. His eldest son is a third generation army officer following his father and grandfather.
A member of the Army Hockey team in his early career, General Mubeen enjoys playing golf, and also has a keen interest in various games and sports.
