Girl students outshine boys in PSC results

Girl students have outshone boys in primary school certificate (PSC) while the latter superseded their counterpart in the junior-grade stage, according to results of this year's exams published Tuesday across the country.
The combined pass rate at the Primary Terminal Examination 2014 is 97.92 per cent, which breaks down as girls 97.97 per cent and boys 97.88 per cent.
And the joint pass rate at the Junior School Certificate (JSC) exam and its equivalent is 90.41 per cent: 90.79 per cent male and 90.07 per cent female.
In the PSC and its equivalent examinations, some 224,411 students secured the highest grade-GPA 5 (grade point average 5). The top-graders in the JSC and its equivalent examinations number 156,235.
Compared with the previous year, the number of GPA-5-holding students in the junior grade decreased by 15,973 as the number of the top-graders was 172,208 in 2013.
This year, 95.98 per cent students cleared the Ebtedayee examinations while the percentage of Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC)-passed examinees is 93.50, which is 2.39 per cent higher than that of last year.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid and Primary and Mass Education Minister Mustafizur Rahman in separate press briefings at the secretariat announced the results of the country's two largest public examinations simultaneously.
Earlier in the morning, they formally handed over the result sheets of the public examinations to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office Ganobhaban in the capital.
Junior School Certificate: This year combined 2041,417 students sat for the JSC and its equivalent examinations and 1845,732 of them came out successful. The pass rate is 90.41 per cent--0.47 per cent higher than last year's.
The number of cent-percent-passed institutions almost doubled to 8,889 from the previous 4,997. Besides, zero-pass schools and madrasahs are also down to 49 from the previous 57.
Under the eight general education boards, some 1729,931 students appeared at the examinations and 1548,700 of the examinees got through the tests with 89.85 per cent pass rate. A total of 136,945 students secured top grade, against 152,997 of last year.
With the 97.92 per cent pass rate, Barisal Education Board secured top position followed by Rajshahi with 95.32 per cent. Comilla secured third position with 93.75 per cent, Madrasah 93.50 per cent, Sylhet 91.38 per cent, Dinajpur 90.47 per cent, Dhaka 85.36 per cent and Chittagong 84.29 per cent.
Under the Madrasah Board, some 311,540 students sat for the JDC examinations, and 291,305 of them passed the junior grade with 93.50 per cent success. The rate is 2.39 per cent higher compared with last year's. A total of 19,290 students got GPA-5, against 19,211 in the previous year.
Primary Terminal Exam: Monipur High School and College positioned first on the list of top 20 schools across the country followed by National Ideal School. Milestone Preparatory KG School was third, Motijheel Ideal School and College forth and Viqarunnisa Noon School and College positioned fifth.
Under the Ebtedayee, Baitus-shorf Adarsha Kamil Madrasah secured first on the list of nationwide best institutions, Mirwarishpur Senior Madrasah second and Darunnazat Siddikia Kamil Madrasah positioned third.
Board-wise top three schools:
Rajuk Uttara Model School and College toped under the Dhaka Education Board, Viqarunnisa Noon School secured second and Motijheel Ideal School and College positioned third.
Cantonment Public School & College, Bogra, positioned first under the Rajshahi Board followed by Bogra Govt Girls High School while Bogra Zila School became third.
Under the Comilla Board, Comilla Zila School secured first position while Nawab Faizunnesa Govt Girls High School second and Feni Girls Cadet College third among the best institutions.
  Jessore Cadet College toped the list of best schools under the Jessore Education Board, Military Collegiate School Khulna second and Govt Coronorate Secondary Girls School third.
Dr Khastagir Govt Girls High School in Chittagong Sadar stood out first under the Chittagong Board followed by Collegiate School, Chittagong and Bangladesh Mohial Samiti Girls High School and College positioned third
Barisal Cadet College toped the board list, Barisal Govt Girls High School second and Taslima Memorial Academy, Patharghata third. Jalabad Cant Public School and College first under the Sylhet Board, Sylhet Cadet College second and Govt Agragami Girls High School third.
Cantonment Public school & College, Rangpur, got the first position under the Dinajpur Board followed by Amena-baki Residential Model School second, and the Milinenium Stars School and College, Nilphamari, third.
Tanjimul Ummah Cadet Madrasah positioned first under the madrasah board followed by Darunnazat Siddikia kamil Madrasah and Jamea Quasemia secured third position.
Education Minister Mr Nahid claimed despite the number of GPA-5-holding students having decreased slightly at the junior grade examinations, the overall outcomes are good and satisfactory. "This progress is because of some effective initiatives, including distribution of textbooks accordingly and broadcasting of good lectures through television channel by the ministry," the minister said.
