November 19, 2011 00:00:00

Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Friday said the government is evaluating the reply they received from the World Bank (WB) on its suspension of $ 1.2 billion funding for the Padma Bridge Project on allegations of corruption. "The reply from the World Bank is neither in favour of, nor against the government," he told reporters after attending a meeting at his secretariat office Friday noon, reports UNB. Muhith said the government had put forward some proposals to the lending agency and the WB sent its reply, which is technical. "Let's see what we can do. there is a need for more discussion." The WB earlier committed to provide $ 1.2 billion for the 6.15 km long Padma Bridge project apart from $ 615 million from the Asian Development Bank, $ 400 million from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and $ 140 million from the Islamic Development Bank (IDB).
