Govt floats tender for 530mw rental power plants today

The government will float a tender (today) Thursday for installation of eight rental power plants to generate 530 megawatt (MW) of electricity on a fast-track basis to ease the country's chronic power supply crunch.
Of the total eight plants, four having a total generation capacity of 250 MW will be diesel-fired and the remaining four to generate 280 MW will use furnace oil.
The state-owned Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) floated the tender requesting proposals from both local and foreign entrepreneurs for installation of the power plants, its operation and maintenance services and supply of electricity on rental basis.
The BPDB will buy electricity from the diesel-fired power plants -- Bheramara 100mw, Katakhali 50mw, Thakurgaon 50mw and Syedpur 50mw -- for three years.
While, the board will purchase electricity from four furnace oil -run rental plants -- Noapara 100mw, Madanganj 100mw, Sarishabari 30mw and Barisal 50mw - for five years.
