The interim government has lifted the ban on Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, its student wing Chhatra Shibir, and its other front organisations.

Dr. Mohammad Abdul Momen, Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry's Public Security Division, issued a notification on Wednesday to this effect.

The notification stated, "Since there is no specific information or evidence of involvement of Jamaat, its student wing Shibir, and its other front organizations in terrorist activities, and the government believes that the organisations are not involved in terrorist activities, the government, as per Section-18 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 2009, has cancelled the previous circular that banned Jamaat, Shibir, and its front organizations."

On August 1, the Awami League government banned Jamaat-e-Islami, its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir, and all of its front organisations as political parties and entities under the Anti-Terrorism Act-2009.

On August 5, Sheikh Hasina resigned as prime minister and fled the country in the face of a mass uprising against the AL government. Jamaat lawyer Mohammad Shishir Manir stated that Jamaat-appointed lawyers had discussions with the government officials and advisers regarding the issue.

He further added, "The decision to ban Jamaat by the Sheikh Hasina Government has been cancelled. Now, we will file a petition with the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court to revive the case regarding the registration of Jamaat. We hope to receive justice from the apex court, and Jamaat will be able to register with the Election Commission (EC) as a political party."
