Govt plans rickshaw-free Dhaka: Sahara

Home Minister Sahara Khatun Wednesday said gradually all the city roads will be rickshaw-free. Speaking to reporters after a meeting of the parliamentarians of Dhaka at her ministry, she said they decided to uphold the decision of gradually withdrawing all rickshaws from the city roads. Sahara said they also decided to publicise the decision to ban rickshaws on Dhaka city roads after informing the people's representatives of the areas concerned. Expressing her sorrow over Tuesday's violence by rickshaw-pullers, the home minister said, "Everyone (present in the meeting) was asked to remain alert against such incidents in future." - bdnews24.com
